We have been a part of each other's lives for more than 16 years. Yes, sixteen years! We first met in junior high school back in 2004. We were introduced through a mutual friend and family member. We grew up together from mere teenagers and we were inseparable. Our love story began as a friendship and quickly blossomed into much more.

 

We have shared many memories together. From junior high school dances to high school proms, we were always by each other’s side. Even when we graduated from high school, our love continued to persevere. While in college, we traveled to see each other nearly every weekend. During this time within our relationship, we learned more about each other as individuals. We faced some challenges; however, we were able to grow “individually” within our relationship as well. The beautiful challenge about growing individually, is you have the opportunity to harness the season. We both learned the power of choice. The choice to choose each other every day.

 

From friends to high school sweethearts to happily married. Today, as we reflect on our first year of marriage, we would say it has been a tale of unexpected experiences filled with love, laughter, and sorrow. Those roller coaster of events of traveling the world together to losing loved ones within months of each other, have all taught us several key points. We learned the importance of communicating our thoughts and feelings without assumptions; to listen for understanding and to ask the correct questions; to talk about everything even through uncomfortable conversations; and to always apologize because pride is not conducive to a healthy relationship. Lastly, to be present with each other and to love with no limitations.

 

We both agree that the situations we have faced have caused us to lean on each other more than ever and for that…we are thankful. Our love has endured and it continues to strengthen with each beat of our hearts.
