Nikki & Dexter
Ever the social butterfly, I decided to attend a friend’s Super Bowl Event. It was there that I met my husband-to-be. The attraction was instant. Dexter was fine and had a little bit of a “Frankie Beverly” thing happening. The connection between us was evident from the start but it wasn’t without its challenges. He’d been married before and marriage was not in the foreseeable future for him. As for me, I had never been but always remained hopeful.
Over time, we got to know each other. Dexter had a great sense of humor and knew how to make me laugh and I loved cooking. So, needless to say we spent much of our time laughing and eating. The relationship didn’t seem to be headed toward anything serious but it always felt right. During our courtship, tragedy struck. Within a 1-year period, we both suffered the tremendous loss of our Fathers. These unexpected and devastating turns of events changed our outlook on life and love, forever. Losing our dads, brought us closer and taught us about trust and emotional vulnerability. We needed comfort and support and found it in each other. It was then that we knew we had something truly special. It was God’s timing, not our own that made the difference.
